Schweigert swats down career-high 11 kills in Sandburg’s sweep of Illinois Valley

OGLESBY — Sophomore Emma Schweigert set a career high for kills in the Sandburg volleyball team's 25-22, 25-20, 25-14 sweep at Illinois Valley on Wednesday night.

Schweigert put down a team-leading 11 kills and posted a .308 hitting percentage for the Chargers in the victory. The previous best for the second-year player from Tremont was eight kills, set last week at Highland and Aug. 22 against Des Moines Area.

Sandburg (14-17 overall, 6-2 Arrowhead Conference) also got double-digit kills from sophomore Abigail Shaffer, who collected 10 to go with 15 digs and two aces.

Setter Quinn Rexroat had four of the Chargers' eight aces in the victory, and she had 32 assists.

Three other players joined Shaffer with double figures in digs: Addison Gillen (15), Jalie Eller (12) and Macy Nolan (10). Nolan's 10 digs were the freshman's most in a match this season.

Sandburg had four blocks on the night, with three of them coming from Harlee Hainds.
