Chargers fall short in conference road match to Cougars

FREEPORT — Harlee Hainds reached double-digit kills for the fourth time this season, but the Sandburg volleyball team lost 25-18, 25-17, 16-25, 25-22 at Highland on Wednesday night.

It marked the first Arrowhead Conference defeat for the Chargers (13-15, 5-2) against an opponent other than Sauk Valley since Sept. 29, 2016. That loss also came at Highland.

Hainds recorded 10 kills with a .400 hitting percentage on 20 attacks to lead Sandburg. She also contributed a solo block. Hainds finished one kill away from matching her season high of 11 on Sept. 10 against Illinois Valley.

Sophomore Emma Schweigert matched a career high with eight kills, and she added an ace. Freshman Jalie Eller had seven kills, two blocks and an ace to go with 16 digs.

Setter Quinn Rexroat dished out 32 assists, and Abigail Shaffer had a team highs of 17 digs and two aces. Libero Addison Gillen picked up a dozen digs.
