Chargers fly away from Rock Valley behind big days from Bradford, Sluder
GALESBURG — Davante Bradford had a double-double, Logan Sluder led all players in scoring and the Sandburg men's basketball team used two second-half spurts to pull away for an 84-70 win over Rock Valley on Saturday afternoon.
KEY MOMENTS
• Up 38-37 in the opening moments of the second half, the Chargers (6-5) scored 16 of the next 19 points and never looked back. Ethan Price had a steal-and-layup early in the burst, and Sluder added a three-point play. The stretch put Sandburg ahead 54-40 with 13:30 to play.
• Rock Valley pulled within 62-57 with just under 8:00 to go, but the Chargers responded with a 10-0 run. After Ethan Price split a pair of foul shots to start the stretch, Ralph Wires came up with a three-point play. Wires added a floater to finish the run and give Sandburg a 72-57 lead with 5:25 left.
HIGHLIGHT REEL
Freshman Tyler Heffren intercepted a Rock Valley pass and fed Demarion Honaker for a fast-break alley-oop in the final minutes of the first half.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Bradford had 14 points and a season-best 10 rebounds as he notched his first double-double as a Charger. The freshman from Davenport, Iowa, was 4 of 10 from the field, went 6 of 7 at the foul line, had nine defensive boards and dished out four assists.
