Price, Sluder earn all-tourney nods, but Chargers fall short in 2 contests at Waubonsee Classic

SUGAR GROVE — Sophomores Ethan Price and Logan Sluder earned spots on the all-tournament team, but the Sandburg men's basketball team dropped both of its games at the Waubonsee Classic on Friday and Saturday.

SATURDAY
Waubonsee 85, Sandburg 76
The Chargers trailed 53-39 at halftime but staged a late rally. Sandburg cut its deficit to 77-76 in the final 2 minutes before the host Chiefs, receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division II rankings, scored the game's final eight points.

Freshman Demarion Honaker led all players with 22 points. He was 7 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point distance. Honaker also had six rebounds.

Price had 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Price was 5 of 5 from the free-throw line.

Freshman guard Ralph Wires was a perfect 6 for 6 at the stripe and finished with 13 points in addition to a team-best four assists. Sluder added 10 points for Sandburg.

Pat Robinson led five Waubonsee players in double figures, scoring 18 points.

SUNDAY
Division III No. 8 Joliet 91, Sandburg 69
Joliet, ranked eighth in NJCAA Division III, held a 37-35 lead at halftime before pulling away in the final 20 minutes.

Price ended with 21 points, leaving him one away from matching his career-high set last season against Black Hawk. He scored 12 in the first half, hit a pair of 3s and was 3 of 3 from the line.

Sluder scored nine of his 14 points in the second half for the Chargers. Wires tallied 11 points, with nine coming in the opening half.
