Balanced Chargers sweep away Kishwaukee at home
GALESBURG — Four Sandburg volleyball players had at least eight kills in the Chargers' 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 Arrowhead Conference sweep of Kishwaukee on Tuesday night at John Lewis Gym.
The Chargers (22-5, 5-2) hit .324 and .343 in each of the first two sets, respectively, and their only deficits of the night came at 1-0 and 2-1 in the opening set.
Tied at 9 in the first set, Sandburg rattled off a 9-0 run on Abigail Shaffer's serve to take control. Natalie Burden and Olivia Falborg each had a pair of kills in the run, and Shaffer added an ace.
The Chargers used a 7-0 run early in the second to take a 9-2 lead. That spurt featured a pair of Ayla Cannon kills and a Burden ace.
Burden opened the third set with five straight points on her serve, including another ace. The sophomore outside hitter finished with three aces on the evening.
Taylor Wagner had a team-leading 10 kills on 18 errorless attempts for the Chargers. Cannon totaled nine kills and three aces. Falborg and Burden each finished with eight kills, and Burden had 12 digs.
Setter Grace Vyhnanek had 27 assists in addition to three kills and two aces. Shaffer chipped in 10 assists and eight digs in the win. Libero Madeline Mooney picked up a team-leading 17 digs on the night.
