Sandburg Volleyball Sweeps Away Illinois Central in Home Opener

GALESBURG — Sophomores Lauren Erke, Jadyn Swan and Gracie Rademacker each put down double-digit kills as the Carl Sandburg College volleyball team swept Illinois Central 25-20, 25-17, 26-24 on Wednesday night in the Chargers' home opener at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.

A 7-1 stretch that was kicked off by a Rademacker kill and closed out by an ace from her gave Sandburg (3-4) a 17-12 lead in the first set. The Chargers would trail for only two more points in the entire match after that.

Rademacker finished off the second set with back-to-back aces as Sandburg took seven of the last nine points to take a two-set lead. The Chargers hit .375 in the second set, notching 18 kills on 40 attacks with just three errors.

The Chargers lead 19-13 in the third following a block from freshman Grace Evans, but ICC came back to force a set point at 24-23. Sandburg, though took the final three points to close out the match, using a Rademacker block, a Cougars hitting error and a kill from Swan off a Carmyn Baldwin assist to complete the sweep.

Erke finished with a team-best 12 kills in addition to picking up 10 digs and three blocks. Swan had 11 kills on a .364 hitting percentage, and Rademacker contributed 10 kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Evans had eight kills and a team-leading five blocks, four of which were solo.

Baldwin had 39 assists from the setter position, and libero Jasmin McDaniel led the Chargers defensively with 20 digs.
