Chargers win opening invite as Seei finishes 2nd overall
GALESBURG — Highlighted by Olivia Seei's runner-up finish, the Sandburg women's golf team opened its season by winning the Sandburg Invite on Saturday afternoon at Lake Bracken.
Seei, a freshman from Geneseo, shot an 88 in her collegiate debut to finish solo second, one shot back of medalist Amelia Dunseth from Rock Valley. Seei opened her round with a birdie on the par-4 first hole and added another birdie at the par-4 eighth. She shot 44 on each side of the par-71 course.
Two other freshmen also had top-10 showings for the Chargers in their debuts. Jessica Schultz placed sixth with a 94, and Anna Carroll tied for seventh with a 96. Allison Thome's 101 provided Sandburg's final counting score in the 34-player field.
The Chargers' 379 total was 11 shots better than runner-up Joliet in the five-team event. Rock Valley was third with a 397 team score.
