Chargers close out season at Viking Invitational

ROCK ISLAND — The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team finished its 2023-24 season at the Viking Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Highland Springs.

Ava Hackman and Ellie Wasson tied for 20th to lead the Chargers, with each posting a 36-hole score of 171. Hackman led Sandburg with an 83 in Friday's first round, and Wasson carded a team-best 85 on Saturday.

Lainey Jensen was 28th with a 180 (87-93) total for the tournament. Kylie Fahnestock (93-93—186) and Lauren Minkel (95-93—188) were 35th and 36th, respectively.

The Chargers put up a team score of 349 in the first round and closed with a 359 for a 708 total, finishing 12 shots back of sixth-place Carroll. Host Augustana shot 314-309—623 to win by 14 shots over Aurora.

Augustana had three of the top five individuals, including medalist Avery Frick, who finished 7 over par (151) for the tournament to beat teammate Kelsey O'Connor by three.
