Wasson 2nd Overall, Chargers 2nd as Team at Monmouth Spring Invite
MONMOUTH — Ellie Wasson placed second overall and helped the Carl Sandburg College women's golf team to a runner-up finish at the Fighting Scot Spring Invite on Saturday at Gibson Woods.
The 36-hole tournament was shortened to just one round after inclement weather forced the cancellation of Sunday's final round.
Wasson, coming off a medalist showing at the Chargers' spring season-opening match against Southeastern, shot an 84 on Saturday to finish 13 over par. The sophomore ended up one shot back of medalist Ella LaMothe of Olivet.
Sandburg had all four of its scorers place in the top 10. Lauren Minkel took fifth after shooting an 87. Avan Hackman tied for eighth with a 94, and Lainey Jensen was 10th with a 96.
The Chargers totaled a 361 and were eight shots off the pace of team champion Olivet. Sandburg finished ahead of Concordia (378) and host Monmouth (478).
