Chargers shoo away Kougars behind Redding’s 26, Angel’s season-high 11
GALESBURG — Hailey Redding erupted for 26 points as the Sandburg women's basketball team sped past Kishwaukee 86-51 on Tuesday night in an Arrowhead Conference matchup.
Redding connected on 5 of 10 3-pointers as she finished a point away from matching her season high. The freshman from Abingdon-Avon High School came off the bench and went 9 of 16 overall from the floor, plus 3 of 4 from the free-throw line. Redding also was one of six Chargers (17-8, 5-1) who tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
Eleven of Redding's points — including three of her 3s — came in the second quarter as Sandburg built a 40-27 halftime lead.
Freshman guard Lajaya Angel also turned in a double-digit scoring night off the bench. Angel tallied a season-best 11 points while shooting 5 for 11 from the field and pulling down six rebounds. Her previous high for points was 10 on two occasions, most recently Dec. 16 at McHenry County.
Antonia Kisler finished with 10 points in the win for Sandburg, including a pair of 3s. Kisler joined Redding, Angel, Camryn Atterberg, Tiera Hall and Ryleigh Clark with six boards.
Hall led the Chargers with four steals, and Janessa Wallace had a team-best eight assists in the win over the Kougars.
Sandburg outscored Kishwaukee 22-10 in the opening period and pushed its lead to 65-39 after a 25-12 third-quarter advantage.
The Chargers won for the fourth time in their last five games and improved to 8-2 in their last 10.
