Chargers wallop John Wood for 3rd straight victory
GALESBURG — The Sandburg women's basketball team routed John Wood 98-57 on Wednesday night as the Chargers completed a home-and-home series sweep of the Blazers.
The Chargers (5-3) stormed to a 26-10 lead after the opening quarter and led 52-14 at halftime as they won their third straight contest. It was the most points scored by Sandburg since putting up 119 in a win Feb. 11 last season at Illinois Valley.
Freshman Hailey Redding continued her hot streak for Sandburg, scoring a season-high 27 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Redding had five rebounds and connected on 5 of her 8 3-point tries. It marked the fourth straight game in double figures for the freshman from Abingdon-Avon High School.
Abbie Ackers had 15 points and a team-leading nine rebounds off the bench, both of which were her highest totals this season. Ackers was 5 of 11 from the field and a perfect 4 for 4 at the foul line. Four of her rebounds came on the offensive glass.
Antonia Kisler tallied 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in the victory, and sophomore Paige Huffman finished with 12 points on the strength of a 4-for-7 night from 3-point range.
Sandburg finished with 13 3s in the victory, one shy of matching its season high from Nov. 4 against Southeastern.
