Chargers hold DuPage to 12 FG, 37 points in road victory

GLEN ELLYN — The Sandburg women's basketball team put together a stifling defensive effort in a 51-37 victory at DuPage on Friday.

The Chargers (10-5) held the host Chaparrals to just 12 total field goals, two 3-pointers and 16 percent shooting from the field in the victory. No DuPage player had more than five points and two field goals in the contest.

Sandburg won despite shooting just 27 percent (15 of 55) overall and going 3 of 23 from long distance.

Capre Ferguson had a game-high 13 points as she led the Chargers in scoring for the fourth game in a row. The sophomore was 3 of 10 from the field but drained 7 of 11 foul shots and collected eight rebounds.

Freshman Antonia Kisler had 10 points, including a 6-for-6 day at the free-throw line. Kisler finished a rebound shy of a double-double and had three assists.

Sophomore forward Brook Pieper had a game-best 15 rebounds and totaled eight points in the victory. Gabbie Vontz also hit double figures on the glass, collecting 10 rebounds.

Freshman Layni Dobbins had nine points as she drilled a pair of 3s and was 3 for 3 at the charity stripe.

Sandburg led 21-19 at the half and pushed its lead to 39-25 after outscoring DuPage 18-6 in the third quarter.

The Chaparrals' 37 points were the fewest allowed by Sandburg this season. The Chargers' previous low for a game was 39 in a Nov. 13 victory over Eureka JV.
