Chargers’ starters all hit double digits in blowout win at Spoon River

CANTON — All five Chargers starters reached double figures — with three of them going for season-highs — as the Sandburg women's basketball team smoked Spoon River 94-70 on Wednesday night.

Freshman guard Lillian Covarrubias led the way with a season-best 16 points as the Chargers (4-2) won their third in a row.

Freshman Antonia Kisler tallied a season-best 15 points, including a pair of second-quarter 3-pointers, and added 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Kisler, who also had seven assists against the Snappers, has reached double figures in four of the Chargers' first six games.

Capre Ferguson matched Kisler's 15 points, and sophomore Gabbie Vontz knocked in two second-quarter treys as she finished with a season-high 13 points. Sophomore forward Brook Pieper also hit double digits for Sandburg, finishing with 11 points.

Tiera Hall grabbed 11 rebounds in a reserve role, with six coming on the offensive glass.

The Chargers recorded their most points in the game this season and finished with 10 made 3s, also their most this year. Sandburg led 45-32 at halftime and ballooned its advantage to 68-45 after the third quarter.
