Ferguson’s Big Game Lifts Chargers in Victory at Olive-Harvey

CHICAGO — Led by a huge night from freshman Capre Ferguson, the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team finished off its regular season with a 78-73 win at Olive-Harvey on Thursday night.

Ferguson came off the bench and tallied 25 points — just one off her season high — to help the Chargers head into the postseason with a 21-9 overall record.

The freshman from Galesburg was 11 of 17 from the field, went 1 of 3 from 3-point range was 2 of 3 from the free-throw line. She also had four rebounds, two assists and four of Sandburg's 19 steals in the victory. Ferguson has reached double figures in four of the last eight games and has averaged 20 points in the last two contests.

Three other Chargers also scored in double figures in the road win. Brook Pieper had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists and three steals.

Sophomore Kelci Shelton collected 15 points, seven boards, six assists and four steals on 5-of-8 shooting. Sophomore Elly Bentley, the reigning Region 4 Player of the Week, had 14 points, five assist and five steals for Sandburg.

The Chargers opened up a 23-14 lead after the opening quarter and held the Panthers at bay after taking a 36-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

UP NEXT
The Chargers begin the Region 4 Division II tournament with a quarterfinal matchup Thursday. The opponent, start time and location will be determined Sunday.
