Pieper’s 29-Point Double-Double Paces Chargers in Win at Waubonsee

SUGAR GROVE — Brook Pieper and Elly Bentley each had 20-plus points as the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team picked up a 94-85 road win at Waubonsee on Saturday afternoon.

Pieper finished a point away from tying her season high as she scored 29 on 11-of-19 shooting and added 13 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Pieper's performance also saw her go 2 for 3 from 3-point range and 5 for 6 from the free-throw line.

Bentley added 26 points while going 10 of 16 from the field and knocking down all six of her free-throw attempts. The sophomore guard also had five assists in the victory.

Kelci Shelton managed to record a double-double while scoring just five points. Shelton hauled in 10 rebounds and dished out a season-best 10 assists. The sophomore also had four steals and three blocks for the Chargers.

Freshman Capre Ferguson matched her season high with 18 points as she went 6 for 12 from the floor and 5 for 5 at the charity stripe. Ferguson also had 18 points in Sandburg's Dec. 16 win over DuPage.

Sandburg led 22-17 after the opening quarter and took a 44-31 lead into halftime over the Chiefs. The Chargers extended their advantage to 71-57 heading into the fourth.
