Sandburg Women Drop Road Contest to No. 6 Golden Eagles

ROCKFORD — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team had three players score in double figures, but the Chargers dropped their second straight game in a 99-63 loss at unbeaten and nationally ranked Rock Valley on Saturday.

Elly Bentley had a game-leading 24 points for Sandburg (9-3), but the Chargers couldn't overcome an early deficit against the Golden Eagles (13-0), ranked No. 6 in NJCAA Division II.

Rock Valley got out to a 25-12 lead after the first quarter. The Golden Eagles blew the game open by outscoring Sandburg 37-18 in the third to push their advantage to 89-54.

Bentley was 10 of 18 from the field and knocked down all four of her free-throw attempts. Camille Kruse added 13 points and a tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds. Kruse was 6 of 8 inside the arc in addition to collecting four assists and four steals.

Sophomore Kelci Shelton had 11 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals in the defeat.

Maya Mitchell had 19 points to lead four Golden Eagles players in double figures.
