Vontz Scores 16 as Chargers Trounce Marian Ancilla for 6th Straight Victory

GALESBURG — Gabbie Vontz led four Carl Sandburg College women's basketball players in double figures as the Chargers routed Marian Ancilla 84-41 on Tuesday at John Lewis Gym for their sixth straight win.

The Chargers (7-1) led 39-24 at the break and saw their lead balloon to 62-31 after outscoring Marian Ancilla 23-7 in the third quarter.

Vontz came off the bench to score a season-best 16 points for her first double-digit outing as a Charger. The freshman finished 6 of 11 from the field, knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and grabbed seven rebounds.

Sophomore Kelci Shelton turned in 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting while adding four rebounds, six assists and three steals. Freshmen Capre Ferguson and Camille Kruse each scored a dozen points for Sandburg. Ferguson had five rebounds, five steals and two assists.

Nine of the 10 players who saw the floor for the Chargers scored at least five points. Sandburg shot 42 percent (32 of 77) from the floor for the game and was 6 of 26 from 3-point range.

The Chargers won despite leading scorer and reigning Region 4 Division II Player of the Week Elly Bentley sitting out because of an injury.
