Sandburg Women Dominate Pioneers on Glass to go 1-1 at Lake County Classic

GRAYSLAKE — The Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team split a pair of games at the Lake County Classic, losing Friday night to the host Lancers and blowing out Prairie State on Saturday.
FRIDAY
LAKE COUNTY 65, SANDBURG 61
The Chargers took a 33-25 lead into the break, but Lake County outscored the Chargers 23-9 in the third quarter to take the lead.
Sophomore Gracie Sims scored a game-high and career-best 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting in the loss. Sims' previous career best was 11 points on three occasions last season.
Brook Pieper tallied 15 points and led all players with 16 rebounds for her first double-double as a Charger. The freshman forward also had three steals and a block. Elly Bentley scored 10 points, giving the Chargers three players in double figures. Bentley also grabbed six boards.
Lake County was led by Chloe Sisco and Mariya Sisco, who each scored 16. Kennedee Clark had 11 points off the bench for the Lancers.
SATURDAY
SANDBURG 82, PRAIRIE STATE 50
Pieper and Kelci Shelton each recorded double-doubles as the Chargers easily handled the Pioneers. Sandburg led 38-31 before outscoring Prairie State 24-7 in the third quarter.
Bentley scored 24 points and had five assists while shooting 12 of 21, and the Chargers had a huge edge on the glass, outrebounding the Pioneers 58-28.
Shelton led the way with 12 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. She also had 14 points while going 6 of 8 from the field. Pieper scored 11 on 5-of-9 shooting and pulled in 10 rebounds. Savannah Dominique also had 10 boards while playing in a reserve role. The outing marked Dominique's first career game with double figures in rebounds.
All 11 Chargers who got into the game scored.
Miracle Thomas had 13 points to lead Prairie State.
