Chargers Bow Out of Region IV Quarterfinals to Unbeaten No. 1 Panthers

CICERO — Unbeaten Morton proved too much for the Carl Sandburg College women's basketball team on Wednesday, ending the Chargers' season with a 90-20 loss in the quarterfinals of the Region IV Division II District B tournament.

The Panthers (29-0) — the top seed in the tournament and No. 1-ranked team in NJCAA Division II — held the Chargers to just 22 percent shooting (8 of 36) in the contest.

Elly Bentley had five points and four rebounds for the Chargers. Natalie Righi and Lilly Isenhour each scored four points, and Sophia Gugliotta had four boards and four assists.

Morton's Mia Simpson led all players with 29 points and 11 rebounds.

Sandburg finishes coach Kellen Fernetti's first season with a 12-20 overall record, more than doubling its win total from last year (five). The Chargers also posted a .500 mark in Arrowhead Conference play, going 5-5.
