Bio
After several years of coaching travel softball and leading one of the largest softball organizations in the Midwest, Mike Egenes joined the Sandburg softball program as an assistant coach ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Egenes was vice president and director of coaching for the Bloomington-Normal Girls Softball Association's travel program from 2015-22. He also coached the BNGSA's Angels 04 team from their 9U-18U seasons, with nine players moving on to play college softball. The squad finished in the top five of the USA Softball Northern Nationals in 2017, added a top-10 finish in 2019 and was the champion at the USSSA Great Lakes Nationals in 2019.
Egenes now coaches the BNGSA Angels 09 team, which finished in the top five at the Great Lakes Nationals in 2022.
Egenes spearheaded the inclusion of USA Softball’s Region 6 in the 12U All-American Games that have become an annual showcase event each summer in Oklahoma City. He also coached the Region 6 squad three times.
At the junior high level, Egenes led Bloomington Evans to an 18-win improvement in his first two years and won the school’s first regional championship.
In 2022, he received the Moreland Fink Award from USA Softball for meritorious service to the game.
He served as a private hitting and catching instructor in the Bloomington-Normal community for several years, with numerous players advancing to every level of college softball.
Egenes played college baseball at John Wood and Quincy. He's a graduate of Iowa and works in agency communications for State Farm.
Egenes lives in Eureka with his wife, Melissa. They have four grown daughters — Laken (Brody), Megan, Reagan and Kaitlyn — and a grandson, Brooks.
