Ryan swats HR in nightcap, but Chargers lose 2 at home to Cavs

GALESBURG — Bailey Ryan homered in Game 2, but the Carl Sandburg College softball team dropped a pair of contests to Kankakee on Monday afternoon at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENT
Ryan's sacrifice fly after Elly Bentley's leadoff double in the bottom of the first made it 2-1, but the Cavaliers, among those receiving votes in the Division II poll, scored in each inning and posted multiple runs in four of five frames.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Alexis Brammeier singled twice in two at-bats, including an RBI in the fourth.

KEY MOMENTS
• After a five-run first inning by Kankakee, the Chargers fought back with five straight one-out hits in the bottom half to make it 5-4. A Maleaha Nagel double, Kaitlyn Egenes single, Olivia Lewis bunt single and Brammeier sacrifice fly each brought in a run.
• Ryan's solo homer to left in the fourth made it a 6-5 game, but the Cavaliers outscored the Chargers 4-0 over the final three innings.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Ryan added a first-inning single to go with her dinger. The center fielder finished 2 for 4 with a pair of runs and an RBI.

TUESDAY'S GAMES PPD
Tuesday's scheduled doubleheader against Illinois Valley has been postponed because of anticipated inclement weather. A makeup date has yet to be announced.
