Sandburg Softball Sweeps Tigers to Run Winning Streak to 4

GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College softball team picked up its second sweep in as many days Monday, earning a pair of blowout wins over Iowa Wesleyan JV at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Key Moment
The Chargers raced to an 8-2 lead after an inning, but the Tigers trimmed their deficit to 11-9 entering the bottom of the fifth. Sandburg then ended the game via the mercy rule with a six-run frame in which the Chargers took advantage of five errors.

Sandburg Standout
Gabby Blanchard (South Pekin, Ill./Pekin) had four hits in five at-bats to lead a 17-hit Chargers attack. Blanchard singled three times, doubled twice, drove in a run and scored four times.

The Chargers (8-11) scored the game's first 12 runs, including a five-run first inning that was capped by a solo homer to left-center by Blanchard.

Sandburg Standout
Chelsey Catton (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) struck out a season-high 10 batters in a complete-game victory. Catton held the Tigers to just one earned run on four hits and three walks, and she had a double and two runs scored at the plate.
