Wake reaches playoff, Chargers take 4th at Fighting Scot Spring Invite
GALESBURG — Tanner Wake advanced to a playoff and the Sandburg men's golf team shot its lowest round of the season in the Fighting Scot Spring Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Gibson Woods.
Wake, coming off a runner-up finish at the Charger Classic earlier in the week, shot a 1-over-par 71 in Saturday's opening round and went to a playoff with Augustana's Calvin Short after shooting a 77 on Sunday. Short won on the first playoff hole as both players finished the tournament at 7 over par.
Wake made four birdies in the first round. He followed that by recording two birdies Sunday and an eagle on the par-5 11th hole.
Sandburg, the only NJCAA school in the 10-team field, opened with a 311 team score Saturday, the Chargers' best this season. They previously shot 312 at the Charger Classic and Aug. 27 in the first round of the Heartland Invitational.
Sandburg closed with a 321 on Sunday to finish fourth with a 632 total. The Chargers were two shots ahead of host Monmouth.
Brayden Schleich and Tyler Partee tied for 15th at 14 over for the weekend. Schleich had a final-round 77, while Partee posted rounds of 79 and 77. Kenny Hoosen was 25th overall after shooting 79 and 82.
