Wake ties for runner-up, Chargers take 2nd while hosting invite

GALESBURG — Tanner Wake tied for second, and the Sandburg men's golf team placed second as it hosted the Charger Classic on Monday at Lake Bracken.

The Chargers shot 312 as a team, matching their lowest round of the 2025-26 season. Sandburg also posted a 312 in the first round of the Heartland Invitational on Aug. 27.

Wake carded three birdies in his 1-over-par round of 72. Starting his day on the sixth hole, the sophomore birdied the par-4 eighth, 10th and 14th as well as the par-5 third. His only hiccups were a double bogey on six and consecutive bogeys on 16, 17 and 18.

Wake tied Black Hawk's Aidan Dorathy for runner-up and was one shot back of medalist Chase Hadley of Black Hawk. 

Blake Harvey also had a top-10 showing for Sandburg, placing sixth with a round of 76. Harvey shot 1 over on the back nine, including a birdie at 18.

Sandburg's other counting scores came from Brayden Schleich (81) and Cooper Hansen (83).

Playing as individuals, sophomore Tanner Sedam tied for 11th with a 79, and Kenny Hoosen and Braeden Brennan tied for 13th with rounds of 81.

Black Hawk won the six-team tournament with a score of 295. Sandburg was 15 shots ahead of third-place Monmouth, which shot 327.
