Schleich, Harvey, Wake each shoot 78 for Chargers at Battle of the Mississippi

SHERRARD — Brayden Schleich, Blake Harvey and Tanner Wake each recorded a round of 78 in the Sandburg men's golf team's stay at the Battle of the Mississippi on Monday and Tuesday at Fyre Lake.

Schleich turned in an 8-over-par card for Monday's first round, while Harvey and Wake each had 78s on Tuesday.

Schleich's opening round was the best of the day for Sandburg on Monday as the Chargers shot 331 as a team. Sandburg rebounded with a 318 in the final round and finished 11th in the standings.

Harvey and Schleich each finished at 159 over 36 holes to tie for 44th, the best finish of any Sandburg golfer.

Wake's 78 came a day after an uncharacteristic 89 from last year's national tournament qualifier. Wake tied for 60th alongside Tyler Partee, who had rounds of 84 and 83.

Kenny Hoosen contributed counting scores for the Chargers in each round as he shot 88-81 and placed 67th.

Northeast (291-297—588) edged Black Hawk and Heartland by one stroke to win the tournament. Northeast's Darcy Whyle was medalist with a 36-hole score of 1 over par, beating Heartland's Tommy Gneiser by a shot.
