Harvey's 77s lead Chargers at Heartland Fall Invitational

BLOOMINGTON — Freshman Blake Harvey turned in a pair of 77s as the Sandburg men's golf team competed at the Heartland Fall Invitational on Wednesday at the Den at Fox Creek.

Playing as an individual, Harvey came in at 5 over par for each round in the 36-hole event and was the only Charger to post two rounds in the 70s. The freshman from Mahomet notched three birdies in his opening round — at the first, third and 18th holes — and added another in his second round on the par-5 fifth. Harvey was the Chargers' highest individual finisher, tying for 26th.

Sandburg shot 632 for the tournament as a team, finishing seventh overall and third among seven NJCAA programs in the 11-team field. The Chargers posted a 312 to start the day and finished with a second-round 320. Sandburg was one shot back of Millikin's B team for sixth and two ahead of eighth-place Rend Lake.

Brayden Schleich shot a 1-over 73 in his opening round, making four birdies. The freshman from Limestone High School carded an even-par 36 on the front, highlighted by birdies at the fourth, sixth and ninth.

Cooper Hansen had a 7-over 79 in the first round for Sandburg, and Kenny Hoosen and Tyler Partee each came in with an 80 in the opening round.

After starting his second round four over through his first four holes, sophomore Tanner Wake battled back to finish with a 1-over 73. Wake birdied four of his final five holes of the day and finished with five total birdies in the second round. He tied for 30th in the tournament at 156 for the day.

Illinois Wesleyan's Juney Bai had rounds of 70 and 71 to win the individual title by four strokes over Titans teammate Aidan Healy.

IWU won the tournament with a total of 583, highlighted by an even-par first round. The Titans' B team was second, four shots back. Host Heartland was the top NJCAA squad, placing fourth overall at 600.
