Beers ties for 4th to lead Sandburg men’s golf at Knox Invite
GALESBURG — Logan Beers shot an even-par opening round and finished tied for fourth to lead the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team at the Knox Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Soangetaha.
Beers' first-round 72 put him in a three-way tie for first place. He followed with a seven-over 79 on Sunday to tie Wisconsin-Stout's Hunter Neumann for fourth overall and finish three shots back of medalist Cade Coon of Culver-Stockton.
Sophomore Tyler Picken also posted a top-10 finish for the Chargers. He tied for eighth after shooting rounds of 77 and 76.
Sandburg, the only non-NCAA Division III team in the tournament, finished seventh in the team standings. The Chargers shot 326 in the first round and 331 on Sunday for a two-day total of 657. Sandburg was 19 strokes ahead of eighth-place Monmouth.
UW-Stout won the tournament with a 602 total, including a score of 299 on Saturday.
