Beers, Picken Post Top-5s for Sandburg at Charger Classic
GALESBURG — Logan Beers and Tyler Picken delivered top-five finishes, helping the Carl Sandburg College men's golf team to a second-place showing at the Charger Classic on Thursday at Lake Bracken.
Beers finished one shot out of a playoff for medalist honors, posting a 5-over-par 76 to take solo third. Picken, coming off a runner-up finish in the Chargers' season opener, added a 77 to end up alone in fourth place.
Sandburg shot a 316 for the day, just two shots back of winner Sauk Valley in the five-team field.
David Hise turned in an 81 for the Chargers, and Kyle Shaw shot even par on the front nine on his way to a round of 82 for Sandburg's final counting score.
Sauk Valley's Brendan Pillion won a playoff with teammate Wes Wilson for medalist honors after each came in with a 4-over 75.
