Phillips Wins Again With 2-Under 70 as Chargers Take 2nd at Southeastern Spring Invite
BURLINGTON, Iowa — Carl Sandburg College men's golfer Clayton Phillips earned his second straight victory, leading the Chargers to a second-place finish in the Southeastern Spring Invite on Monday at Burlington Country Club.
Phillips posted a 2-under-par 70 to win by a stroke over Hawkeye's Sacha Brown. The win was the fourth of Phillips' career and his second in a week. The sophomore came into Monday's action off a two-shot victory in the Sauk Valley Challenge.
Chargers sophomore Calvin Peterson, competing as an individual, tied for third with an even-par 72. Sandburg's other scores toward its team total of 309 came from Tyler Picken's 79 and 80s from Cooper Thelerits and Owen Sipka.
The Chargers finished 14 shots back of champion Hawkeye and nine ahead of third-place Iowa Wesleyan in the seven-team event.
