Trio of Chargers Qualify for All-Arrowhead Men’s Golf Team
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men's golf team had three members who qualified for the All-Arrowhead Conference team during the spring season.
The Chargers were represented by freshman Clayton Philips (New London, Iowa/New London), sophomore Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) and freshman Cooper Theleritis on the 15-player team. The all-conference team was calculated by averaging a golfer's four lowest scores in the Arrowhead's five spring meets.
Phillips, who tied for 43rd at the NJCAA Division II Championship earlier this month, finished seventh in the conference with a 76.3 scoring average. He posted three top-10 finishes, including taking medalist honors at Highland with a 3-under-par 69.
Hopping earned a spot on the All-Arrowhead team for the second consecutive season after placing eighth in the conference with a 76.8 average for his four best rounds. He finished in the top 10 on four occasions and had a pair of top-five showings, highlighted by a tie for fourth place in the season's final meet at Kishwaukee with a 2-over 74.
Theleritis was 12th in the conference with a 78.8 scoring average. He finished in the top 10 three times, including matching Hopping's 74 at Kishwaukee to tie for fourth place in his best showing of the season.
