Chargers’ Barnes voted to All-Region 4 2nd team

GALESBURG — Sandburg men's basketball sophomore Keauntrey Barnes was voted by coaches to the All-Region 4 Division II second team after leading the Chargers in multiple statistical categories this season.

The selection comes on the heels of Barnes being named to the All-Arrowhead Conference first team. The 6-foot-6 forward from Farmington was the only player from the Arrowhead Conference to earn all-region honors.

Barnes was a model of consistent production in his lone season at Sandburg after transferring from Kirkwood, helping the Chargers to a 22-10 overall record. A starter in all 32 games, Barnes was the Chargers' leading rebounder at 7.7 per contest. He also led Sandburg with 58 made 3-pointers, a 77 percent mark at the foul line and 16 blocks on the season 

Barnes finished second among Chargers in scoring average (13.1), field goal percentage (50 percent), 3-point accuracy (38 percent), assists per game (2.2) and steals per game (1.2).

Barnes had a season-best 28 points in Sandburg's Dec. 19 win over DuPage, and he matched that mark in the Chargers' Region 4 quarterfinal win at Madison on Feb. 26 as he connected on 8 of 11 3-point tries. Barnes had six games of 20 points or more, and he posted five double-doubles on the season.
