Chargers push win streak to 6 as Grieves goes off for 26 vs. Kishwaukee
GALESBURG — Ashton Grieves delivered 26 points as the Sandburg men's basketball team pushed its winning streak to six games with a 73-56 Arrowhead Conference win Tuesday night over Kishwaukee.
Grieves came alive late in the first half, connecting on four straight 3-pointers and scoring 14 in the opening period to help the Chargers (17-8, 2-2) take a 35-28 lead into the locker room.
The freshman from Metamora's 26 points for the game surpassed his previous season best of 20 on Nov. 12 at Spoon River. Grieves was 6 for 6 at the foul line in Tuesday's victory over the Kougars, who came in with a 3-0 conference record.
Sophomore Matt Bockman hit a pair of 3s and matched his career high in scoring with 16 points. Bockman also scored 16 twice last season, and his total Tuesday was his most in his sophomore campaign. He scored 15 points on Dec. 20 at Harper and Jan. 8 in the Chargers' matchup at Kishwaukee.
Freshman Rylan Carton added a dozen points, with 10 of those coming in the second half.
The Chargers never trailed after halftime as they won for the eighth time in nine games and moved to 11-2 in their last 13.
