Chargers stymie Fighting Scots in 2nd half for 3rd straight win

GALESBURG — The Sandburg men's basketball team limited Monmouth JV to just 15 second-half points as the Chargers earned a 77-51 win over the Fighting Scots on Monday night.

Sandburg held a 42-36 lead at halftime before outscoring Monmouth JV 35-15 after intermission, giving the Chargers their third straight win and fourth in the last five games.

Rylan Carton led Sandburg in scoring with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Fellow freshman Gavin Grothaus also reached double figures, scoring 10 points on a 5-for-8 night from the floor. Grothaus also had seven rebounds, with six coming on the offensive glass.

The Chargers set season highs for total rebounds (54) and offensive rebounds (22) in the victory. Sophomore Keauntrey Barnes led the way with a season-best 18 boards. He also scored eight points and had five assists.

Sophomore Camron Williams collected a career-high 10 rebounds, with half coming on the offensive end. Williams added seven points off the bench, including a 3-pointer.
