Barnes’ season-high 28 helps propel Chargers to back-to-back wins

PALATINE — Keauntrey Barnes had a season-high 28 points in a win Friday over DuPage, helping the Sandburg men's basketball team pick up consecutive weekend victories to finish the 2025 portion of its schedule.
FRIDAY
Sandburg 82, DuPage 69
Barnes went off from 3-point range against the visiting Chaparrals, going 5 of 7 from beyond the arc. In addition to setting a season high in scoring, Barnes' five treys and 14 rebounds also were his most as a Charger.
The sophomore from Farmington was 9 of 12 overall from the field and finished with his second straight double-double. He also tied for the team lead with four assists.
Sandburg held off DuPage after taking a 37-31 lead into halftime. Matt Bockman finished with 13 points for Sandburg while going 5 of 9 from the floor (2 of 4 from 3-point range) and Ralph Wires had 12.
Freshman Rylan Carton added 10 points, and matched Barnes' four assists on the day.
Freshman Gavin Grothaus collected 10 rebounds for the Chargers in addition to posting three assists and two steals.
SATURDAY
Sandburg 72, Harper 60
The Chargers held just a 31-29 lead at intermission but put the clamps on host Harper in the second half, outscoring the Hawks 41-31.
Bockman turned in his second straight double-digit scoring night, totaling a team-best and season-high 15 points. The sophomore from Decorah, Iowa, was 6 of 8 from the field, highlighted by a 3-for-5 effort from downtown. Bockman also had five rebounds and two assists in the win.
Coming off the bench, Ralph Wires had 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting and went 4 for 5 from the free-throw line.
Carton finished with a dozen points and five rebounds, and Barnes turned in 11 points, five boards, five assists and three steals. Gavin Grothaus had a team-high six rebounds for the Chargers.
