Derry Drops Double-Double in Victory Over Fighting Bees

GALESBURG — Koen Derry put up a double-double while leading the Carl Sandburg College men's basketball team in points and rebounds in the Chargers' 69-61 win over St. Ambrose JV on Thursday at John Lewis Gym.

Derry finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including going 2 for 4 from 3-point range. The sophomore from Galesburg also pulled down a season-best 11 rebounds on the night for his second double-double of the season.

Sophomore guard Jeremiah Babers had 13 points while going 6 of 13 from the floor. Freshman forward Ethan Price was 4-for-9 shooting and scored 11 points, tying his season-high set Jan. 11 at Black Hawk. Price also tallied three steals and two assists.

The Fighting Bees posted a better field goal percentage than the Chargers (43 percent to 41 percent), but Sandburg forced St. Ambrose JV into 19 turnovers while giving it away just eight times.

The Chargers (12-13) never trailed and led by as many as 14 points as they snapped a four-game skid. Sandburg took a 32-23 lead into halftime.
