ELGIN — Ethan Krei pitched five shutout innings in Game 2, but the Sandburg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday at home against Elgin.
The Chargers fell short of qualifying for the Region 4 tournament and ended their season with a 14-33 mark.

Key moments
The visiting Owls got all the runs they needed in a five-run second inning. Oakton did the damage on four hits, a walk and a hit batsman. The big blow in the inning was a two-out, two-run double by Giuseppe Buttaci to make it 5-0.
Sandburg standouts
Derek Castillo and Lucas Price each went 2 for 3 with an RBI for the Chargers. Price came through with an RBI single in the fifth to get Sandburg on the board, and Castillo had an RBI double in the sixth.

Key moments
• The game remained scoreless into the sixth, when the Owls got back-to-back one-out doubles from George Salazar and Tyler Heath to plate the lone run of the contest.
• Sandburg's best scoring chance came in the fourth as Derek Cintron led off with a single to center and Castillo followed with a walk. The next three batters were retired, though, on a strikeout, fielder's choice and popout.
Sandburg standouts
Krei went the first five innings on the hill for the Chargers and had little trouble mowing through the Oakton lineup. The lefty from Metamora allowed just two hits and three walks in his five scoreless frames. Krei fanned a season-high five batters and threw 75 pitches (45 strikes) in the no-decision.
