Chargers come up short in slugfest against Blueboys

JACKSONVILLE — The Sandburg baseball team racked up 19 hits and scored in all but one inning, but Illinois College JV beat the Chargers in a 22-12 eight-inning slugfest on Monday afternoon.

Key moments
• Sandburg took a 5-4 lead in the top of the third inning as Josh Morales doubled to left field with two out and plated Jace Wilkerson, who doubled to center in the previous at-bat.
• The Blueboys regained the lead with a four-run bottom of the third. The Chargers cut the deficit to 8-7 on Derek Cintron's two-run single in the fourth, but Illinois College JV answered with a five-run bottom half to take the lead for good.

Sandburg standout
Cintron doubled twice, drove in two and scored a run as part of a 3-for-5 day at the dish.
