Wiegand Drives in 3 as Chargers Fall Late to No. 6 Southeastern

GALESBURG — Austin Wiegand filled up the box score, but nationally ranked Southeastern broke a tie game in the eighth to defeat the Carl Sandburg College baseball team 9-7 in a nine-inning contest Tuesday at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

KEY MOMENTS
• Southeastern, ranked sixth in Division II, grabbed 7-5 lead after a five-run fifth, but the Chargers tied the game with a pair of runs in the seventh. Frank Kelch drew a leadoff walk and Wiegand doubled to push Kelch to third. Kelch came home on a bunt by Derek Castillo, and Wiegand plated the tying run on a wild pitch.
• The Blackhawks regained the lead in the eighth on a two-run home run to left by Sam Skarich.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Wiegand finished 2 for 3 with a walk, a double, a three-run homer, two runs and a pair of stolen bases. His three-run shot to right in the third highlighted a four-run frame that gave Sandburg a 4-2 lead.
