Chargers Sweep IVCC to Stay Unbeaten in Conference, Then Drop 2 at No. 1 WolfPack

MADISON, Wis. — After sweeping Illinois Valley on Saturday to stay unbeaten in Arrowhead Conference action, the Carl Sandburg College baseball team dropped a pair of nonconference games Sunday at Madison, the top-ranked team in NJCAA Division II.

Key Moment
After six dominant innings from starter McKoy Allen (Rutland, Ill./Fieldcrest), the Eagles trimmed the Chargers' lead to 7-4 in the seventh and brought the tying run to the dish with two out. Jeron Conner (Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) came on and got a flyout to right to end the contest.

Sandburg Standout
Allen turned in another dominant performance to get the victory and go to 3-0 on the season. The lefty fanned a season-high 12 and didn't walk a batter over six scoreless innings while surrendering just two hits (both singles). In three starts against Arrowhead opponents, Allen has allowed just one run on nine hits, struck out 25 and issued only two walks in 15.1 innings.

Key Moment
The Chargers put up two touchdowns in the second inning as they sent 18 batters to the plate. Cam Scott (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) hit a three-run homer in the inning, and Caileb Johnson (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) added a two-run blast.

Scott went 2 for 3 with a double, home run, walk, three runs scored, five RBIs and a stolen base.

Key Moment
The Chargers tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth on an RBI groundout from Mason, but the Wolfpack pushed across five in the fifth for the difference in the ballgame.

Silas Israel (Tremont, Ill./Tremont) turned in five solid innings, allowing just two earned runs. The southpaw struck out six, didn't walk a batter gave up seven hits.

Key Moment
After the Chargers (13-10, 8-0) cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, the Wolfpack got an insurance run in the bottom half thanks to a two-out rally behind a pair of singles sandwiched around a walk.

Jack Shields went 2 for 3 and knocked in both Chargers runs with a two-run base hit to center with two away in the fifth.
